Typhoons Update and Swim Meet Alert!

Hey Typhoon Families!

We hope your week back from the Memorial Day weekend has been somewhat stress-free.   As we are now in June (crazy!) we wanted to send a quick email to touch base on a few things.

Thanks for your dedication!

First things First!  All of the coaches want to say "Thank you!" to all the parents and swimmers for toughing it out these first few weeks of practice.  We know the water and air temps have not been ideal, which has made for some really cold practices.  We've never seen every swimmer in practic shiver as much as they have, but they all have been troopers!  We've tried to keep everyone moving as much as possible to keep them warm, but hope things will start to warm up so we can put more focus on our of the pool instruction and drills.   Your kids are tough and have pushed through it so Thank You for your dedication to the Durant Trails Typhooons.

Green & White Intrasquad Meet:

Mark your calendars for next Tuesday, June 6 for our Annual Green & White Intrasquad meet. This is a mock swim meet that will serve as a practice run for parents, volunteers, coaches, and of course, the kids. We want to see how ready we are for our first swim meet, which is June 13th at Oak Park.

Everyone will need to be at the pool no later than 5:30 pm for swimmer check-in and warmups. The meet will begin at 6:00 pm and should last approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. If you plan to attend this meet, please RSVP online by clicking HERE.

VOLUNTEERS! This is a perfect time to sign up for a volunteer position for the Green & White Meet. We need volunteers for all positions and you can sign up by Clicking Here! Don't worry if you're not sure what a position does, that's what this meet is for...to teach you how the volunteer jobs work and what's required.

Below are a few of the main things we want to take away from this event.

  • Swimmers will swim each stroke; Free, Back, Breast, and Fly (6&Unders do not swim Fly)
  • We will assess all swimmers for times and determine if their strokes are legal.
  • Swimmers will learn the staging process for their event, how to line up behind their lanes, what the instructions mean that are given by the Meet Starter (i.e. swimmers on the block, swimmers take your mark, etc...), know when to dive/jump in at the sound of the starter's horn, and experience what it's like to race.
  • Parents will learn and understand the meet process and the HOA safety protocols that we must adhere to.
  • Volunteers will gain a better understanding of their volunteer position(s).

We look forward to seeing you at practice.

Go Typhoons!
